Tic Toc Goes the Clock

Single moms, working moms, moms who feel like they do it all, with little or no help from their partners— this blog is for YOU!!

After conducting an informal online survey that asked parents, “What is your biggest struggle in your parenting process right now?” I discovered the answer was a resounding “Time Management!”  People asked, “How can I more effectively use my time?” or said “I feel overwhelmed and pulled in some many different directions at the same time.”

We all have the same 24 hours in a day, but most of us feel like that’s not enough.  Let me offer you this perspective. It is not the amount of hours in the day that causes our struggle, but rather how we manage them.

There are multiple opinions on successful time management strategies— and what works for some will not work for others. I am a firm believer in the adage, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” So if you are happy with the way you manage your time, great! Keep going and don’t change a thing.  However, if what you are doing is not working for you, I ask that you keep an open mind.  Consider the information in this blog and try implementing it. If it works, awesome!  If these methods do not work, then move on and try other things.  Remember change in one’s routine takes time and getting used to. Be patient and kind to yourself as you implement one or more of the strategies.

The five keys to successful time management are:

1. Planning and preparation

2. Remaining patient and calm

3. Viewing time as abundant and not depleting

4. Creating habits

5. Asking for help/outsourcing

Come back next week for a discussion on the planning and preparation.
